Christina Zimpel, ex-directrice artistique chez Vogue a récemment pris le pinceau. Depuis son studio de Brooklyn prolifère un univers inopiné très réjouissant. Ses illustrations à l’encre ou à l’acrylique déclinent des aplats chatoyants sous un trait naïf. Formes franches et couleurs vives s’associent avec audace dans des compositions dont l’élégance ne va pas sans rappeler les harmonies graphiques d’un Matisse ou autres fauves qu’elle admire.

A cool breeze sweeps into illustration.
Christina Zimpel, the former art director of Australian and American Vogue eventually turned her skills to making her own art. From her Brooklyn studio flourishes an unexpected universe of the most pleasant type where ingenious strokes of ink and acrylic define rejoicing surfaces of colour. Zimpel combines clear shapes and a bold palette to create motifs that have the off-beat elegance of modernist painters such as Matisse and fellow fauvists she admires.
Instagram has been her first fan and her downright sharpness already stirred further enthusiasts: set design and capsule collections for Michael Kors and Maison Kitsuné, illustrations for the American, British and Australian Vogue, Allure Magazine and for the Sydney Morning Herald. The 2018 CFDA Awards celebrated at the Brooklyn Museum also featured her portraits of the 30 Nominees and Honorees. Her painting and drawings have been exhibited in New York, San Francisco and Sydney. So fresh!
